Bally's Marquette opened its doors on Friday, March 13, as the brand-new land-based facility to take over the mantle from its historic predecessor.

Bally's latest venture is a $26.2m transformation of the former Casino Queen Marquette riverboat casino, which first began operations in 1994.

The new project has been on the agenda since 2024, when crews broke ground on what was previously the additional on-land building.

Now, the games are off the boat and the ship has sailed, because Bally's is in town.

Bally's Marquette is located at 100 Anti Monopoly Street in the city and provides a significant boost for leisure and gaming attractions in the Hawkeye State.

The site is a modern revamp of the existing casino provision, with extensive dining and entertainment options, including direct access from the parking lot.

Defining moment for Marquette

Stepping on board a riverboat isn't everyone's idea of a great casino experience, and that was a factor in the vision from Bally's.

The new casino venue in Marquette will be able to attract a wider audience, adding to the footfall within the dual-level facility.

"The official transformation to Bally's Marquette represents a defining moment for our team, guests and the community", said Robin Corbeil, General Manager of the new venue.

"With our move ashore complete, Bally's Marquette delivers a modern gaming experience,
expanded dining offerings and a welcoming atmosphere that honors our riverfront roots while positioning us for the future
", added Corbeil.

Bally's Marquette will feature more than 400 optimum slot machines and other iGaming tables.

There will be dedicated areas for live blackjack and table games, including Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em and Three Card Poker.

If you prefer your sports, Bally's has you covered on the second floor with all the dedicated screens, self-service kiosks and betting concessions that you require to place a wager on your desired game.

Bally's Marquette brings new dining options

Bally's Marquette has introduced various dining options within the new Iowa site.

Riverside Grill is the headline full-service restaurant with an extensive menu, while the 1994 Sports Bar pays homage to the riverboat's heritage, providing the backdrop for live action on the big screens.

The Sidecar Bar is the place to go for a cocktail, while Beachfront Coffee is the location for light bites and a drink.

Bally's Marquette hosted its grand opening on Friday, March 13, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a series of promotional events throughout the day.

Guests were able to enjoy live music and entertainment, while those who were in possession of a Bally's Reward Card were able to participate in the Grand Opening Celebration Giveaway with free plays and $5,000 in cash up for grabs.

Iowa casinos are changing in 2026

By the end of this year, the riverboat casino will effectively be phased out, with all venues moving on to terra firma.

There are many practical reasons for the transition, but more space means greater capacity for a better customer experience, as well as being able to compete with land-based options in neighboring Missouri and Nebraska.

In addition to the new Bally's Marquette, Ameristar Casino Hotel Council Bluffs has commenced plans to shift onshore, while Catfish Bend will become the Great River Casino Resort.

Those sites will be joined by Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids, taking the number of casinos in Iowa to 20.
