Hard Rock Las Vegas has proposed adding a new 2,000-seat theater as part of its $4B redevelopment of the former Mirage resort on the Las Vegas Strip, according to documents filed with authorities in Clark County, Nevada.
The five-story 'West theater' would add approximately 179,000 square feet to the project, including sufficient space for the auditorium, function and backstage areas
Additionally, the plans also include a second-floor karaoke bar, with the venue connecting directly to an interior promenade.
A senior Hard Rock Las Vegas executive said the new facility is intended to provide a more intimate setting for live entertainment acts, complementing larger venues as part of the overall Hard Rock Las Vegas offering.
Timeline for Hard Rock Las Vegas launch
At present, the site is working towards an opening in late 2027, with employment opportunities expected for around 6,000 people.
All of this is happening at the site of the former Mirage Hotel and Casino venue, which closed in July 2024.
The property is undergoing a full renovation and expansion, which will create the new Hard Rock Las Vegas, this means the proposal would bring the total number of major entertainment spaces at the redeveloped resort to three.
Further, the former Love Theater, which hosted Cirque du Soleil's 'The Beatles LOVE' for almost two decades, is being expanded into the 5000-seat Hard Rock Live arena which will have its own attraction for various events.
In addition, the former Mirage Theater is being repurposed, but those plans are still to come to light.
The Paradise Town Advisory Board is scheduled to consider the application on June 30, with a vote by the Clark County Board of Commissioners expected in July.
Flagship site will include 660-foot guitar-themed hotel tower
The entire Hard Rock project on the Strip, which commenced after the Mirage closure two years ago, includes construction of a signature 42-story, 660-foot guitar-themed hotel tower with 675 rooms and suites.
A full interior makeover is underway for the existing tri-tower structure, bringing its total room count to approximately 3,700.
Other features and attractions will include nearly 175,000 square feet of gaming space, multiple pools, two spas, and expanded dining, retail, and meeting facilities.
As we move into 2027, more details will be released ahead of a major launch for Hard Rock Las Vegas.
Challenge to overcome downturn in Las Vegas visitor figures
The redevelopment marks one of the largest construction projects on the Strip in recent years, transforming the former Mirage into a flagship Hard Rock-branded resort.
One of its challenges will be to stand out and attract the required footfall as Las Vegas continues to record lower visitor volumes.
Data for April indicated that visitor volume dropped 1.8% to 3.27 million, with hotel occupancy in the Southern Nevada jurisdiction slumping 1.5% from the previous year.
Strip occupancy dropped by 1.8% while Downtown recorded a 3.6% fall.
The negative trend also applied to Harry Reid International Airport, which processed 336, 284 fewer people compared to April 2025.
