What Are Wagering Requirements?
Wagering requirements often come hand in hand with claiming a casino bonus, but sometimes you can be lucky and find a no wagering casino bonus - this means that whatever you win you get to keep. If the bonus has a requirement attached to it then it means you need to playthrough a multiplied amount of money before you can cash out.
For example, if I sign up for a bonus with 100 free spins at $0.10 each - the bonus has a value of $10. If this bonus has 10x wagering requirements attached to it I'll need to wager at least $100 before I can cash out any winnings (10 x $10). After I have played through $100 then whatever I make on top I get to keep.
However, as you can imagine, sometimes these amounts can be unrealistic. BonusFinder would recommend you don't claim bonuses with high wagering requirements attached, such as 50x or 60x for example.
How to Read a Wagering Requirement
The bonus wagering requirements are found in the T&Cs section, here you can find all of the stipulations attached to claiming the bonus such as what games qualify, the expiry date, and … you guessed it the wagering requirements.
Commonly you will see bonuses with a 30x wagering attachment. So what does 30x wagering mean? It's the same as above - just a higher amount. However, some bonuses will account for your deposit wager within the claim and others won't.
For example, if we have a bonus where we are claiming $20 bonus cash for a $10 deposit: 30x the bonus means we need to wager $600. On the other hand, if we have 30x the bonus plus deposit it means we need to wager $900 - which is quite a big difference. Always look out for this, as it can go from the bonus being achievable to unachievable depending on this factor.
How Much You Actually Have to Bet to Claim a Casino Bonus
When it comes to how to wager a casino bonus you need to find the value of the bonus and times it by the wagering requirement. But, don't forget when learning how to calculate wagering requirements, always check to see if the deposit is included within the stipulations or not!
If you're struggling, you can always use our bonus calculator which will figure out your wagering requirements for you.
Which Games Count Toward Wagering
Whilst you're on the T&Cs you will also need to check what games are eligible for the casino bonus, this can vary from game types to specific game titles.
For example, some bonuses might permit all slots are eligible to wager on to claim the bonus, but no other game types (such as blackjack, roulette, live casino etc) are allowed.
On the other hand, all game types might be allowed but they could vary in game contribution such as:
- Slots contribute 100% to the bonus.
- Blackjack contributes 20% to the bonus.
- Roulette contributes 15% to the bonus.
- Live casino contributes 10% to the bonus.
- Instant win contributes 5% to the bonus.
Ideally, you want to be able to pay off the wagering requirements as quickly as possible so the wise thing to do would be to play the game with the highest contribution so you have to wager the minimum possible in order to claim the bonus.
The Max Bet Rule and Excluded Games
Alongside wagering requirements and game contribution, two other rules you will need to follow are the max bet and excluded games bonus stipulation. The casino max bet rule is the maximum you're allowed to wager to clear the bonus. For example, the max bet might be $5, so if you wager anything over $5 per spin - to clear the bonus quicker - then you won't qualify for the bonus. Always check what the max bet is and never go over.
The other T&C which often catches people out are eligible and excluded games. Eligible games are the games which qualify you for the bonus. For example, you might have to play your deposit on Big Bass Bonanza to qualify for a free spins bonus, any other game may void the bonus.
Further, there could be a list of excluded games - such as high RTP casino games - or generally just a long list of excluded slots (for whatever reason) and if you play your deposit on those games then again, the bonus won't be valid.
How to Clear Wagering Requirements Faster
There are a few tricks you can use to clear the bonus as quickly as possible. Below you will find six hacks on how to beat wagering requirements:
- Contribution factor: Check that the games you want to play account for 100% contribution.
- Play low volatility games: These are casino games that pay out lower amounts on a more frequent basis, allowing your bankroll to stretch further.
- Expiry date: Mind the clock and try to wager within the expiry period.
- Eligible games: Check the games you want to play are eligible to count towards the bonus.
- Max bet: Don't play any more than the max bet stipulated in the T&Cs.
What Counts as Fair Wagering?
Ultimately you want to be able to turn over the bonus as quickly as possible so you can withdraw your winnings, therefore you want the lowest wagering requirements possible too.
Low wagering requirements would be a no wagering casino bonus or one that is 1x - 15x any higher and it will be difficult to clear.
Any bonuses that are 30x - and above - will make it tough to cash out, as you will have to multiply the bonus / bonus + deposit by the wagering requirement before withdrawing. And with large wagering requirements this can sometimes feel totally unachievable.
Sticky Bonus vs Non-Sticky Bonus
When selecting a casino offer one of the main elements you need to consider is whether it is a sticky or a non-sticky bonus - as this will decide on whether you can earn real money or not.
- Non-sticky bonus: Your winnings can be cashed out for real money.
- Sticky bonus: You can't make any real money off your bonus winnings.
