Online casino continues to prevail in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported that the total revenue combined between all forms of gaming and fantasy contests for June 2025 was reported as $544.7m, with Pennyslvania online casinos leading the way in terms of revenue.

This represents an overall revenue increase of 15.4% compared to June 2024. The main sources of revenue that are regulated by the PGCB consist of slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports betting, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs).

In June 2024, revenue was calculated at $472m, showing a healthy rise year-over-year (YoY). However, despite revenue being up YoY, the $554.7m revenue for June was 7.8% short of the $601.8m generated in May this year.

As mentioned, there were several sources of revenue that saw the figure improve YoY, but just which areas provided the most growth for the state?

Online casino makes up one of the biggest revenue sources

Online casino games generated a monthly gross revenue totaling $212.6m in June 2025. When comparing this to the figure from 12 months ago, it shows a staggering percentage increase.

In June 2024, total online casino revenue totaled $160.6m, reflecting a rise of 32.3%. This area was one of the primary drivers for revenue.

Several casinos were at the forefront of this growth, including the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and the Valley Forge Casino Resort.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course June 2025

This casino generated $96.4m in total gaming revenue in June 2025, representing a remarkable 30% YoY gain compared to June 2024.

The performance meant the Hollywood Casino was top of the list when compared to other properties in the state last month. But this growth isn’t a fluke.

Since January 2025, the casino has registered an increase YoY regarding revenue in every month except February. The high came at the start of the year, with the casino reporting a 50.3% increase from the year before.

Hollywood Casino’s iGaming business drove growth on a consistent basis, which was supported by PENN Entertainment’s digital expansion and marketing efforts.

Valley Forge Casino Resort June 2025

Valley Forge Casino Resort generated $93.5m in revenue, just short of the Hollywood Casino. Furthermore, the property reflected the highest growth out of all casinos when it came to YoY – across all verticals – accounting for a 46.3% increase compared to June 2024.

Despite trailing the Hollywood Casino, Valley Forge’s growth from 9.95% in February to 46.3% in June showcased fairly aggressive expansion. Additionally, an improvement in customer retention was also a significant aspect regarding this continued growth throughout the year.

Overall, both Hollywood Casino and Valley Forge Casino Resort accounted for around two-thirds of the total iGaming revenue generated in the month of June.

Pennsylvania casinos collected $95.7m in iGaming taxes throughout June 2025, which was nearly half of the overall tax total of $229.8m generated across all verticals.

While iGaming was a key factor in the 15.4% increase in gaming revenue, across the whole of Pennsylvania, it was sports betting that proved to be the biggest contributor to the state’s YoY growth.

Sports betting revenue soars in June 2025

In terms of handle, players spent $483.6m in June 2025. This was a small increase of 4.1% from 12 months ago. While an increase of 4.1% highlights the fact that players are spending more in this sector, it is the revenue that was generated which is the real statement.

Sports betting revenue grew by an astonishing 71.4% year-over-year. In June 2024, $29.9m was the figure recorded; fast-forward 12 months, however, and this has jumped to $51.2m.

Of those figures, $2m in revenue was made from retail sportsbooks and the remaining $49.2m was raised by online sportsbooks.

When it comes to leading operators in this vertical, FanDuel established a partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort to take the top spot. A total of $23.2m in revenue was generated off a $164m handle. This meant a hold of 14.1%.

Furthermore, DraftKings, who formed a partnership with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, finished second to FanDuel. Around $14.2m in revenue was generated from $132m in handle, signifying a hold of 10.8%.

Hollywood Casino Morgantown and BetMGM ranked third in the list with a revenue of $3.1m and a handle of $46.4m while Fanatics and Hollywood Casino York were next at $2.3m in revenue with $35.9m in handle.

ESPN Bet and Hollywood Casino at Penn National rounded off the top five, generating a total revenue of $2.1m and a handle of $21.8m.

Valley Forge and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows both stood out as the two most impressive sports betting revenue generators in the state.

However, special consideration must go out to Presque Isle Downs and Casino and their 8,787.6% increase in June.

Although this is small in relative terms, as just $2.1m was generated in revenue. Compare this to June 2024, when the total was a paltry $23,659, this property is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Land-based results prove there are improvements to be made

Online casino and sports betting may have been the high points of the June 2025 report, but there are improvements to be made across various sectors.

In the state, retail slots revenue dipped 0.9% to $199.3m, despite table gaming revenue increasing by a slight 1.6% margin to $77.3m.

Elsewhere, VGTs revenue at truck stops saw a decline of 2.2%, while there was also a decline in fantasy sports revenue. Fantasy contests saw a dip of 1.8% YoY to $948,790.

To summarise, June 2025 saw another milestone for the gaming industry in the state of Pennsylvania.

Digital platforms such as online casino and sports betting were the main contributors to this impressive month of revenue, signifying that they are now primary areas of growth for the state.

Several sectors could face an important few months ahead regarding revenue, but the overall picture is one of positivity for the Pennsylvania gaming industry – that much is certain.
