New York casinos enjoy their second-greatest month in history

New York casinos have achieved their all-time second-highest month of profit, up 10% when compared to May 2024, while New York’s mobile sportsbooks achieved their highest ever gross gaming revenue, in May 2025.

Whilst online casinos hold a convenience factor, in-person casinos in the Big Apple are evidently still booming. So just how successful were casinos in New York last month?

New York State’s Gaming Commission has revealed all the important facts and figures.

New York land-based casinos revenue May 2025

Statewide totals were incredibly impressive, as casinos amassed a total GGR of $63m – in May 2025 – when accounting for slots/ETGs, table games, sports betting and poker. This was up 10.9% when compared to last month, and is up 10.3% when compared to May 2024.

Additionally, New York casinos made a total net gaming revenue (NGR) of $47.6m across all verticals, during the month of May 2025, which is up 10% Y-o-Y.

Slots & ETGs

New York casinos amassed a grand total of $576m worth of wagers played on both slot machines or ETGs (electronic table games). They collected $7.3m worth of promotional slot gaming credits, while the total amount of credits won equated to $524m.

Slot and ETG GGR (gross gaming revenue) totaled $45.4m reflecting the difference that players wagered, to the profits that the casinos took home. This figure was up 7.6% when compared to April 2025 and it also increased 11.5% year-over-year (Y-o-Y).

Table games & poker

New York casinos table games saw players spend $76.2m in the month of May, with them dishing out $1.4m in promotional table game credits. GGR for table games was a cool $16.2m which was up 18.2% when compared to the previous month.

Despite online poker being illegal in the state, land-based poker has a significant presence in New York.

In-person play is highlighted by the casinos’ success as poker’s GGR totalled $974,765, up 10.9% month-on-month (m-o-m) and it’s also risen by 10.7% y-o-y.

Sports betting

Further, sports betting at the casinos came in at $406,160 which was a huge increase m-o-m of 558.4% from April’s negative total of -$88,620.

Meanwhile, interestingly, the handle decreased 21.7% for the same period, meaning that bettors must have won more than they wagered during April 2024 – leaving the casino a touch short in sports betting GGR.

How much profit did New York casinos make in May 2025?

Net Gaming Revenue (NGR) is an operator’s revenue after deducting costs like bonuses, taxes, fees and other operating expenses. In the case of NYC casinos, this totalled $47.6m.

Overall, NGR increased 11.7% m-o-m and y-o-y also saw a rise of 10%, up from $43.3m.

Comparisons to May 2024

Rewind the clocks back a year, to May 2024, and the difference is evident.

There has been an increase of $47.7m worth of credits played on slot machines (9%) and other ETGs, with a dip in promotional slot gaming credits distributed by $255,173, y-o-y.

Table games took home a greater profit this year in comparison to last, despite proving less popular in 2025.

Wagers increased to $76.2m in comparison to $73.6m last year (3.4%). The casinos dished out more than $202,360 worth of credits, on last year, and also recorded an improved GGR of 7.1% this year as opposed to May 2024.

Poker tables amassed $94,485 more in GGR this calendar year as opposed to last, up 10.7%.

May 2025’s statewide totals are intriguing compared to May 2024’s too. This year, statewide GGR has risen by $5.9m, with an increase of $4.4m of NGR to the operator. Granted, this led to an increase of $1.5m paid in gaming tax.

New York casinos’ revenues May 2025

There are currently four land-based casinos in New York: Tioga Downs, Rivers Casino & Resort, Resorts World Catskills, and de Lago Resort & Casino. Of those four Rivers Casino & Resort was the biggest moneymaker.

Rivers Casino and Resort

Leading at the front in terms of market share is Rivers Casino and Resort. This casino garnered $19.6m in GGR, making a profit of $2m when compared y-o-y – an increase of 11.3%.

Meanwhile sports betting saw a large dip in wagers from $2.7m to $2.2m – down 18% from April 2025. Despite this, sports betting did see a whopping 1251.6% increase in GGR for the same period.

Tioga Downs Casino

Tioga Downs Casino made the least revenue overall when compared to the other three casinos, but still saw increases in revenue. Total GGR, for this casino, came to $9.8m in May 2025, an increase from $9.4m in May 2024 – up 4.3%.

However sports wagering saw a huge GGR increase, compared to April 2025, of a whopping 791.7% from $5,699 to $50,816. This figure is interesting as the handle only saw around an $8k difference between the two months, meaning a lot of bettors must have lost a lot of money.

Del Lago Resort

Del Lago Resort and Casino took home $15.4m in GGR for May 2025 alone – up 19.1% y-o-y – with their numbers ever-increasing.

Table games at Del Lago saw a huge $2m increase in wagers this year, up 17% y-o-y, and table game GGR also increased by 20.1% y-o-y up to $2.8m.

Like its competitors, this casino also saw a huge rise in GGR for sports betting. Sports betting GGR increased 195.6% – from April 2025 – up from a minus figure of -$142,844.

Resorts World Catskills

Resorts World Catskills recorded a gross gaming revenue of $18m. This casino made profits of around $1m when it came to GGR, seeing an increase of 5.8% Y-o-Y.

However, this casino didn’t follow in the footsteps of the previous three when it came to sports betting – the opposite actually happened. April 2025 saw GGR of $28,588 meanwhile May 2025 brought a negative figure of -$50,865, creating a dip of -278% m-o-m.

New York casinos May 2025 summary

Overall, land-based New York casinos saw strong increases across all verticals – sports betting, slots & ETGs as well as table games – when compared to May 2024’s revenues. This proves that brick-and-mortar casinos are clearly very popular in the state and shows potential NYC casino contenders that there is money to be made in the land-based NY casino market.

Changes in figures could come down to a variety of reasons. Ongoing economic conditions may have affected customer spending, online platforms and other entertainment options could be attracting attention from gamblers with postponements of new casino licenses in New York not helping either casinos or their willing players.

But will the future NYC casinos stand to make larger profits or will the taxes and property prices prove to be a misjudged business move, leading them to exit the market like Resorts World Bet recently did? Only time will tell.
