Pennsylvania Online Sports Betting 2021
Before May 2018, sports betting was illegal in 49 states. Then, the US Supreme Court struck down a sports betting law known as the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act or PASPA. In an instant, sports betting in Pennsylvania became a thing. However, it didn’t come without a cost. Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board sports betting licensing fees are $10 million along with a 36% tax rate for every online casino and sportsbook.

1. DraftKings Sportsbook
|Retail Sportsbook||The Meadows Racetrack & Casino
- 210 Racetrack Rd, Washington, PA 15301
|Bonus||20% up to $1,000 deposit match|
The DraftKings online sports betting app is the best in Pennsylvania. They have excellent odds, great welcome bonus, and they offer a wide array of betting markets. Furthermore, they have partnered with Michael Jordan to grab a large portion of the market share.
The strength of DraftKings lies in their sports betting product. The app is easy to use, and betting on sports has been made easy. Combine that with daily fantasy sports, mini casino, live betting and regular odds boosts and you’ve got a winner.
2. Unibet PA
|Casino Partner||Mohegan Sun Pocono
- 1280 PA-315, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702
|Bonus||4x$10 free bet + $500 bonus|
Unibet is known world-wide as an excellent sportsbook provider, and Unibet PA is not lagging behind. Not many PA sportsbooks offer no deposit bonuses. Therefore, Unibet’s $40 no deposit offer ensures that they rank high on our Pennsylvania online sportsbook app review.
In addition to the player bonus, Unibet’s PA app has the most extensive live betting options of all Pennsylvania sportsbooks. The platform that has been perfected in Europe is now available in the US. They are also the betting partner of the Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles, which means regular odds boosts to Eagles’ games. Debit cards are accepted as a deposit option.
3. BetMGM Sportsbook
|Casino Partner||Hollywood Casino Morgantown
- Route 10
|Bonus||$600 risk free bet|
|Exclusive Bonus Code||BonusMGM|
BetMGM in Pennsylvania went live on December 18th 2020 as a follow up to their online casino. They offer new players a great 100% deposit match up to $500 along with one of the best PA sports betting experience. You can find over 25 sports from markets around the globe when you bet with BetMGM. They also offer an excellent loyalty program and ACH banking, Play + cards etc. as deposit methods. BetMGM is a total gambling package for sports and casino gaming.
4. FanDuel Sportsbook
|Casino Partner||Valley Forge Casino Resort
- 1160 1st Ave, King of Prussia, PA 19406
|Bonus||$1,000 Risk free bet|
FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Forge has a solid PA Sportsbook app, with an excellent bonus and great live betting. You can place up a risk free bet up to a 1,000 dollars. This is a 100% match, making it the biggest single sportsbook bonus in PA.
The daily fantasy football giant also has good markets, industry average odds, and several ongoing promotions. The FanDuel Sportsbook does well in everything, without being the best at anything.
5. BetRivers Sportsbook PA
|Retail Casino Partner||Rivers Philadelphia
- 1001 N Delaware Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125
- 777 Casino Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15212
|Bonus||100% up to $250 deposit match|
Rush Street Gaming, the people behind sister site SugarHouse Sportsbook in New Jersey, have more than 20 years of online gambling experience. Newly branded as BetRivers Sportsbook in Pennsylvania and Indiana sports betting by Rush Street Interactive, their gambling site reflects this experience.
The Rush Street Interactive BetRivers sports betting app is easy to use, and offers all the available bets and markets. Their $250 bonus offer is also competetive, even if it can’t match the biggest players of sports betting in Pennsylvania. However, only 1x wager applies to redeeming your bonus.
6. Fox Bet Sportsbook
|Casino Partner||Mount Airy Casino
- 312 Woodland Rd, Mt Pocono, PA 18344
|Bonus||$500 risk free bet|
Fox Sports Media Company is the first major media channel to have their own online betting site, and they take full advantage of that. With a huge online gambling deal in place with the Stars Group, their sports betting operations have a lot of potential. However, although Fox Sports have a great welcome bonus, and a great concept, we don’t really feel that Fox Bet is anything special.
When it comes to actual sports wagering, Fox Bet is average in every way. Sure, their welcome offer is great, and the site looks good, but it hasn’t got anything that other online sportbooks don’t have.
7. TwinSpires PA
|Casino Partner||Presque Isle Downs
- 8199 Perry Highway, Erie, PA 16509
|Bonus||$1,000 riskfree bet|
|Use Bonus Code||FREE1000|
Churchill Downs Inc. rebranded New Jersey sister property BetAmerica as TwinSpires in PA, after making a successful leap to online betting from horse racing. With a great bonus and plenty of betting markets, TwinSpires is a good choice for any bettor. You can deposit with prepaid cards and credit cards.
8. Barstool Sports Betting App
|Sports Betting Partner||Penn Race Course
- 777 Hollywood Blvd, Grantville, PA 17028
|Bonus||$10 no deposit + $1,000 riskfree bet|
|Promo Code||No Code|
Barstool Sportsbook and its parent company Penn National Gaming entered the PA online betting market with a bang. However, they mostly rely on their brand name, social media and the crazy promotions they run.
If you take an objective look at their platform, markets and odds, the sportsbook operator is not yet at the level of top competitors. Sure, they’ll give you crazy odds for select games, but it just doesn’t cut it. Yet.
9. Parx Sportsbook
|Casino Partner||Parx Casino and Racing PA
- 2999 Street Rd. Bensalem, PA 19020
|Bonus||$10 no deposit + $500 matched bonus|
Parx has a strong local presence in eastern Pennsylvania, but their online betting operation just doesn’t quite cut it. Parx Sportsbook is powered by Kambi, which means that the platform is similar to BetRivers. However, they don’t have as exciting promos, the same experience, or an equivalent bonus.
10. Caesars Sportsbook PA
|Casino Partner||Harrahs Philadelphia
- 777 Harrahs Blvd, Chester, PA 19013
|Bonus||$10 free bet + $300 matched bonus|
|Bonus Code||SPORTS10, SPORTS300|
Caesars currently runs their online betting with sports betting license holder Harrah’s Philadelphia, and their platform is decent but has a quite small selection of markets and types of bets. However, we expect improvements to occur as Caesars Sportsbook app gets really going, especially considering Caesars stellar loyalty programs and excellent online casino.
Mobile Sports Betting Apps in PA
All legal online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania offer mobile betting apps for iOS and Android mobile devices. As long as you have a phone that runs Android or iOS, you’re good to go with PA betting apps. However, if you have a third-party mobile device, these platforms work in your mobile browser just as well.
|PA Online Sportsbook||Betting App||Software|
|FanDuel Sportsbook||Yes||iOS / Android|
|DraftKings||Yes||iOS / Android|
|Unibet Sportsbook||Yes||iOS / Android|
|FOXBet Sportsbook||Yes||iOS / Android|
|Parx Sportsbook||Yes||iOS / Android|
|BetRivers||Yes||iOS / Android|
|TwinSpires||Yes||iOS / Android|
|Barstool||Yes||iOS / Android|
You can find the iOS app for each sports betting website quickly in the App Store.
Downloading PA Online Sportsbook Mobile App with an Android Device
If you have an Android device, though, you’ll need to download sportsbook apps directly through the PA sports betting website. Google Play currently does allow real-money gaming apps in Pennsylvania, but many PA betting operators have not yet set up their apps in the Play Store.
Lastly, the above-listed legal PA sports betting apps use your mobile device’s geolocation software. Near the state lines, your phone may connect to a tower out-of-state, which will prevent you from placing wagers. Avoid the problems with geolocation technology by connecting to wi-fi, or by moving away from the very edge of the border.
Registering for a Sportsbook Account
Before you can bet online, you need to register at a state-licensed online sportsbook. Here at Bonusfinder, we’ve listed the personal details required by most sportsbooks. Some PA online sportsbooks have a minimum deposit amount you have to post before being able to wager.
The most commonly required fields are listed below:
- First name
- Last name
- Date of birth
- Social Security Number
- Email address
- Home address
- Zip code
- Mobile phone number
- Age verification
Afterwards, the casino will send you a verifaction e-mail including an activation link, or request a photo ID like a driver’s license. Also you must choose your deposit method, like credit card. Now you’re ready to play.
Major Sports in Pennsylvania Betting
Sports wagering on virtually all sports leagues and sporting events is available in Pennsylvania. Unlike New Jersey, you can also place bets on instate college sports teams. Penn State, for example, has a stellar college football program and Villanova rules college basketball. You can place sports wagers on the following major sports in Pennsylvania.
- NFL Betting
Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles always fill up Heinz Field and Lincoln Financial Field, and bettors can wager on their success in the upcoming football season too! While they face each other rarely, these two giants battle each NFL season for a division title. Main bets for NFL betting include moneyline, proposition bets and futures (including the NFL playoffs).
- NBA Betting
NBA betting in PA does not quite rise to the same level as NFL in popularity, but PA online sportsbooks have tons of betting options if you wish to wager on behalf of the Eastern Conference favorites Philadelphia 76ers. The Wells Fargo Center residents offer plenty of viewing pleasure this playoff season!
- NHL Betting
The back-to-back Stanley Cup champs Pittsburgh Penguins have held PA colors high for the past seasons as Philadelphia Flyers have struggled to get in to the playoffs. Hockey bettors in the Keystone state have plenty of choices when it comes to live betting, point spread bets and totals, as hockey games are notoriously difficult to predict.
- MLB Betting
Another league boasting two PA teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates, MLB is one of the most popular U.S. past time activities. While neither the Phillies nor the Pirates are looking to win the World Series, you can get some great run lines bets and proposition bets in as you enjoy a hot dog and beer at the Citizens Bank Park.
- MLS Betting
The Philadelphia Union in South Philly is the lone MLS participant in PA, and while they have not won the national league championship yet, they are still a contender for some good bets.
- March Madness
March Madness is every basketball fan’s favorite season. Unlike in New Jersey, legal betting in PA allows bets on Villanova’s men’s basketball program, the Philadelphia Big Five member and a recent Final Four champ. PA bettors therefore have plenty to root for during the wrap up of college basketball season.
Other Sports Markets
Other popular betting markets are the international leagues in soccer, hockey and basketball. College sports betting is legal, and college football also has a lot of fans. Bettors can also wager on smaller niche sporting events on some of the online sportsbooks, including
- UFC Betting
- College Football (incl. Penn State Nittany Lions at Big Ten & Bowl Games)
- PGA Tour
- Kentucky Derby
- Pennsylvania Derby
Betting on Horse Races
In addition to horse betting online at portals like TwinSpires, the Pennsylvania sports betting industry offers horse racing and greyhound racing at several race tracks and off track betting parlors (turf clubs, such as South Philadelphia Turf Club or Valley Forge Turf Club, or other OTB facilities) across the state.
Note that you can only place wagers on actual sports events. Therefore any types of bets on the Oscars or the NFL draft or NBA draft are not allowed. However, your wagers on the league MVP or favorite Penn State player as the Heisman Trophy winner are accepted. These wagers are called futures bets.
Bet Types in PA
Each online casino PA offer sports bettors all the usual betting options. Sports fans want the hometown sports teams, like Pittsburgh Penguins, Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Pirates, on their bet slip. If they want to bet on Joel Embiid to score, prop bets are also legal in PA. You can bet on the winner of the World Series or the Stanley Cup with a future bet.
- Moneyline Bets*
- Point Spreads
- Futures Bet
- Player Props (Prop Bets)
*Moneyline is also known as run line in baseball and puck line in ice hockey
Live betting in Pennsylvania is also available for online sportsbooks. Live betting lets bettors bet during the games on various bet options, including the common moneylines and totals. You can also bet on the next goal scorer for the Philadelphia Flyers, or if the Pittsburgh Steelers get a certain amount of points before their opponent. Some sportsbooks also offer live betting on college teams.
Different gambling sites also offer ongoing promotions for betting. Usually these promotions involve some of the players or teams from Philly, or big tournaments like the NCAA championship. You can win more with the same bet amount!
- Odds Boosts: The site will increase the odds of a particular bet. For example, the prop bet for Carson Wentz completing a set number of passes to a running back could increase from +150 to +250.
- Profit Boosts: The winnings of your betslip will be enhanced. Usually the amount is about 10-25% and there’s a cap on the winnings.
- Special Bets: Special events like the Super Bowl and the March Madness’ Final Four usually have special bets attached to them. For example: wager $1 for either team to score a touchdown, win $25. Sometimes special bets might be on player statistics too, like the Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper to pitch or not for a special game.
