⭐ WY Sports Betting January 2022

Wyoming Sports Betting

The first brands expected to launch in Wyoming sports betting.

The legalization of online sports betting sites is a brand new thing for Wyoming, and the state hasn’t always been on board with online sportsbooks. But now, in addition to daily fantasy sports contests, sports betting operators can apply for licenses, and Wyoming residents are able to wager with online sports betting.

Online Sports Betting Legalization in Wyoming

Wyoming sports betting was first proposed in 2020, but the online sports betting bill failed in the House. Rep. Tom Walters advocated for the bill that would have launched Wyoming sports betting in early 2021 as an online only system.

A year later, in an unusual twist, House Bill 133 was officially approved by the Wyoming House of Representatives on March 29th after a reconsideration vote, and the bill passed in the Senate shortly after that. The sports betting bill got the go-ahead after Wyoming’s Gov. Mark Gordon signed the new state law on April 6th legalizing mobile sportsbooks in the state. A few months later, Wyoming Gaming Commission agreed on sports betting rules, and the Wyoming sports betting market went live just in time for the NFL season in 2021.

⭐ Wyoming Sportsbooks

There is no cap on the number of online sports betting licenses available in Wyoming. However, the launch is going ahead with minimum of five sportsbooks. Barstool, FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM Sportsbook have already applied for a license. Of these four sportsbooks, BetMGM and DraftKings have received license approvals in the Equality State.

Sportsbook Bonus Offer
DraftKings Sportsbook $1,000 Match Bonus
BetMGM Wyoming Sportsbook $1,000 Risk Free Bet
DraftKings Wyoming bonus

DraftKings has a bonus for new Wyoming sports bettors.

BetMGM Wyoming

BetMGM Wyoming started accepting real money bets on September 1 2021, and is one of the top sportsbooks in the entire country with competitive odds and numerous betting markets. Use bonus code BONUSMGM to get the welcome offer on the online sportsbook, and sign up for Mlife Rewards to get perks for MGM Resorts.

DraftKings Sportsbook WY

DraftKings Wyoming also went live on September 1 2021. DK dominates the daily fantasy sports industry with FanDuel, so it was no suprise to see them tackle the online betting side early on. DraftKings Wyoming has all the popular sports & favorite teams, tons of available bets, and a great new user bonus.

Upcoming Sites

In addition to the sportsbooks that are already in operation or have submitted a license application (BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, Barstool Sportsbook), the following sites have expressed interest in WY and might find their way into Wyoming in the near future. Only sportsbooks that operate in three or more states will be approved.

  • Caesars Sportsbook (formerly William Hill)
  • Unibet
  • BetRivers

Retail Operators

The bill that was passed approves only online sports betting and mentions nothing about retail sportsbooks. That means sports betting at commercial casinos is still prohibited as of right now. However, at least one of Wyoming’s Native American tribes, Northern Arapaho, is planning on opening a retail sportsbook at one of the four tribal casinos in Western Wyoming, so retail sports betting might arrive in Wyoming sooner than expected. However, horse racing wagering is available, and for example Wyoming Downs operates several off-track betting facilities.

⭐ Sportsbook Promos & Bonuses

Many of the online sportsbooks offer bonuses to new players. They also dish out ongoing promos to returning players. To help you better understand the bonuses, here are the 3 common types that are or will be available in Wyoming:

  • Free Bets
  • Risk-Free Bets
  • Deposit Match Bonuses

Free Bets

The name “free bet” is pretty self-explanatory. This type of bonus is when a sportsbook gives a player a free bet to wager with. The only downside to free bets is that you only keep your winnings, and not the stake itself.

Risk-Free Bets

With a risk-free bet, you get to place a wager with no risk involved whatsoever. If your first sports bet loses, the sportsbook will refund it up to a certain amount. The BetMGM bonus is the perfect example of this; here, you can place a risk-free bet up to $1,000. Wyoming bettors can expect to see these bonuses the most, as most sportsbooks offer these types of bonuses.

BetMGM Bonus

Sportsbook operator BetMGM Wyoming launched with a big risk-free bet for new users.

Deposit Match Bonuses

A lot of Sportsbook and online casinos offer deposit match bonuses. It works by matching a deposit by a certain percentage, leaving you with extra money to play. For example, DraftKings Sportsbook is offering 20% up to $1,000; this means a $100 deposit would get you $20 in bonus cash.

Sportsbook Promo Codes

Currently, you only need a promo code for the BetMGM bonus: BONUSMGM. DraftKings does not require bonus codes, but if that changes, we will update this section. Similarly, when other Wyoming sportsbook offers become available, you can check out the promo codes available in the state right here.

Caesars Maryland

We might see Caesars appear in Wyoming sports wagering soon.

⭐ Registering for a Sportsbook

Legal sports betting is monitored closely, even at the federal level, so you need to know a few things before you register for a sportsbook. Many states required bettors to provide personal information, like name, phone number and social security number, when they first sign up. This is just a formality to verify your identity, and all legal sportsbooks follow this approach.

⭐ Wyoming Sportsbook Apps

Mobile sports betting is be available in Wyoming through sports betting apps. Unlike some states, the Cowboy State does not restrict the number of mobile sports betting licenses it hands out, so we don’t yet know how many sports betting apps will be available in the state.

Both online sportsbooks operating in Wyoming offer apps that work on any mobile device. However, you should always check first how to download the app on your phone, since not all sportsbook operators’ apps are downloadable from the Google Play Store.

Geolocation

Betting apps use geolocation services to ensure that customers are physically located within Wyoming state borders. So make sure you are always connected to Wi-Fi to avoid getting kicked out.

⭐ Online Banking

You must also then place a deposit, in order to get the bonus (in most cases). Deposit options include credit cards, prepaid cards, bank transfers and PayPal. Withdrawal options are similar but some might also offer withdrawals with a paper check. Always check your chosen sportsbook for their banking methods.

Cryptocurrency

Wyoming sportsbooks offer mostly the common banking options, but what separates it from other states is the fact that they allow deposits with cryptocurrency. Neither BetMGM nor DraftKings currently offer the option, but as DraftKings recently expanded in to the NFT business, we can expect them to be at the forefront of digital currencies.

⭐ Sports Markets

Wyoming sports betting has plenty to offer already, and you can find all the main U.S. sports on both sportsbooks, as well as some smaller sports. While Wyoming has no professional sports teams, betting on college sports teams is allowed, so bets on the Wyoming Cowboys are okay. As more books join in on the fun, we’ll see even more betting markets become available in the state.

  • MLB Betting: Baseball fans might look at Colorado Rockies for their wagers, and with the World Series coming up, there is plenty to check out.
  • NFL Betting: NFL, the crown jewel of American sports wagering. The Denver Broncos are not expected to win the Super Bowl, but all football sporting events are filled with betting options.
  • NHL Betting: The NHL is probably not the most popular sport in WY, but offers a lot of betting choices for sports bettors.
  • NBA Betting: Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets are undoubtedly the most popular basketball teams in Wyoming, and top sportsbooks are sure to pay attention on the lines they provide for these teams.
  • College Sports Betting like March Madness betting: Since WY has no professional teams, college sports betting are certain to be popular here. In addition, in-state bets on the Wyoming Cowboys are allowed. University of Wyoming teams participates in the D1 Mountain West Conference and offer plenty of chances for good bets.
  • MLS Betting
  • UFC / MMA Betting
  • Boxing

Bet Types & Odds

Sportsbooks vary a bit on the odds they offer for each game, but in general you can usually find a favorite and an underdog. Betting on the underdog usually means higher returns if your bet is a winner, since it’s considered less likely to win. Both BetMGM and DraftKings have numerous betting options for customers, and offer similar odds on most games. The most popular bets are single bets, so moneyline, spread, and total, as well as single game parlay, which lets you choose multiple legs for a wager within a single game.

⭐ Responsible Gambling in WY

Like most states, the main concern around passing the legislation was that gambling problems will increase once legal sports betting becomes available. That’s why Wyoming’s government decided to allocate $300,000 every year from the online sports betting revenue to statewide resources for gambling addiction treatment. With Wyoming’s small population, this is quite a sizable chunk.

⭐ Conclusion

Wyoming sports betting industry is proving to be an interesting addition to the states with legal sportsbooks. With an unlimited number of online sportsbook providers the state can have, Wyoming residents can now enjoy top of the line mobile sports betting sites and soon a competitive market. The tax rate is reasonable and a good chunk of the Wyoming sports betting revenue is going to the people with gambling problems. The Cowboy State is off to a good start with the WY sports betting market, and we are excited to see what’s next in the coming months.
