⚾ Philadelphia Stats

Philly finished third in NL East in the regular season. You can check their regular season stats below.

2022 Record 87-75
Best Hitter Rhys Hoskins
Best Pitcher Aaron Nola
Batting Average .253
Runs 747
Home Runs 205
Earned Run Average 3.74

Pitching

Phillies aren’t on the bottom of the list when it comes to pitching, but it could be improved. Ranger Suaréz has struggled after a phenomenal 2021 season and the Phillies are hoping he can turn his poor performance around, especially since defense has not been their strength this season. Phillies are also facing a conundrum of their own making: no reliever pitches three days in row to avoid injuries, but if the best aren’t striking when the iron’s hot, will they miss out on the post-season yet again?

Hitting

The 2021 MVP Bryce Harper has come out to play this season as well, and the hitting hasn’t been terrible. If Rhys Hoskins and Kyle Schwarber get their game to a better form, the Phillies are going to look much better than they have all season. With plenty of games before the All-Star break, Phillies have more than enough opportunities to prove they can turn this ship around. At least Phillies are faring better than league rivals Pirates.

⚾ Betting Tips

If you are a Phillies fan who’s new to sports betting, you might be looking for some tips. Below we’ve listed a couple of pointers you can follow when starting out with your chosen betting site.

  1. Keeping Up with the Pitchers: As pitching has been all over the place in the season, keep a close eye on the stats for each of the starters. A hot streak might persuade you to place some additional bets.
  2. Avoid Run Lines: Most baseball bettors place moneyline bets instead of runlines. Baseball is probably the most unpredictable of the major US sports, so it’s a good idea to go with the majority here when it comes to the Phillies.
  3. Check the Harper Props: Bryce Harper is by far the most important player for the Phillies and when he doesn’t play, the team has a disadvantage already. Check your favorite books to see if there’s some good odds for Harper props when he does play, as he delivers the hits and runs consistently.
BonusFinder Tip

If you want to place a future on the Phillies, or any other MLB team, keep checking the odds on different sportsbooks to get the best possible odds.

⚾ How to Bet on the Phillies

There are a few basic bet types that every sportsbook has for teams sports like baseball. You can find these when you click on MLB and search for the game you want to wager on. While all sports betting sites offer these bets, the odds might vary considerably. It’s always a good idea to sign up for a few sites to be able to bet on the games with the most favorable odds.

1
Moneyline

Moneyline

A moneyline bet is very simple to understand: you bet for one team to win. The odds tell you which one is the favorite. You should always consider both sides in the game as betting on the underdog will earn you more money if you win.

2
Spread/Run Line

Spread/Run Line

Spread betting, or run line betting, is a bit more complicated, but often worthwhile to expert bettors. If you bet on the favorite here, you expect them to win by more runs than the handicap (often 1.5, meaning they would need to win by two or more runs). On other side, the underdog only needs to stay within one run or win the game for the underdog bettors to win. It is difficult to consistenly beat the spread, but if you dive into stats, these could earn you more than moneyline bets.

3
Total

Total

A total bet is on the total number of runs from both teams and whether it's over or under a pre-determined number, like 8 or 7.5. If the end score is 7-5, over 8 bettors win.

4
Futures

Futures

Futures are bets on future events, as you might have guessed. You can bet on a division, league, and World Series winner, as well as MVP on some books. Needless to say, Phillies are not a good futures bet at the moment.

5
Props

Props

Proposition bets, aka props, can determined for both individual players and teams. Player props can include such wagers as hitting a home run or throwing a no-hitter, while team props inlude options like first team to hit a homerun. There are plenty of choices for both pre-game and in-game bets.

Manager

The Philadelphia Phillies fired manager Joe Girardi, a former catcher for the Cubs, Rockies, Yankees, and Cardinals, on June 1, 2022. Girardi began his coaching career in 2005 and was named Phillies’ manager in October 2019. Phillies hadn’t gained notable success with Girardi and he paid the price for yet another sluggish start. Bench coach Rob Thomson was named as Girardi’s successor but only on interim terms.

⚾ 2021 Season

Phillies were looking pretty good through all of Spring 2021, but reality hit them in the face in the Fall. Although Phillies had their first winning season in 10 years (82-80), they missed the playoffs again in 2021 despite Bryce Harper and Zack Wheeler having terrific seasons. Zach Eflin and Ryan Hoskins’ injuries proved to be an obstacle the Phillies couldn’t overcome, in addition to bad defense and questionable bullpen work.
