The Gaming Commission gave green light to nine mobile sports betting operators for the market. You can use the same mobile sportsbook in other states where the online sports betting market is live. Their bonus offer with 25x wagering on the site credits is not the best of the bunch, but you should definitely test out DraftKings for the best odds when you get the chance. No NY sportsbook promo code required on DraftKings Sports book.
FanDuel
FanDuel Sportsbook app is a great option for many residents, as the largest sportsbook in the US has all the functions you could want. FanDuel NY has wide selection of major sports, frequent odds boosts, and a standard bonus; no sportsbook promo code required on FanDuel. They also keep the odds competitive. You can play daily fantasy sports as well. FanDuel’s parent company also owns FOX Bet, but they didn’t receive a license.
Caesars Sportsbook NY
Caesars Sportsbook is one of BonusFinder US’ favorites. Out of all the New York online sportsbooks, Caesars Entertainment probably has the best-known loyalty program in Caesars Rewards. They also have plenty of popular sports to bet online on, great odds, and the Caesars sportsbook app is easy to navigate and watch live games on. Their generous welcome bonus is a bet on Caesars, meaning you get a bet credit if your initial bet loses. You also get 1,000 Reward Credits and Tier Credits for the rewards program. Use Caesars NY promo code FINDERFULL to get the sign up bonus.
BetRivers Sportsbook
BetRivers NY sports betting site is not among the best-known betting sites, but they have a good chance of becoming a popular mobile app. The Rush Street Interactive brand has a great NY sportsbook app and it’s easy to place mobile sports wagers online on BetRivers. All the best sportsbook operators strive to provide the most competitive odds, and BetRivers New York also has many other qualities that will attract new playersm like the iRush Rewards. With BetRivers NY promo code FINDER, new users can get a 2nd chance free bet credit if their initial bet loses.
BetMGM New York
BetMGM’s NY online sportsbook launched a week after the first four online sportsbooks, and it’s one of the best sports betting apps for New Yorkers. BetMGM offers great online betting options with different odds, frequent sports betting promotions, live streaming, and their loyalty programs with MGM Resorts is one of the best in the country. Although BetMGM doesn’t have a bonus at this time, BetMGM NY bonus code BONUSMGM gives you some non-withdrawable bonus bets once you place wagers.
PointsBet Sportsbook
PointsBet NY was the sixth New York betting site to take off in state in late January 2022 with their excellent second chance bonus, which is one of the top New York online sportsbook bonuses. To stand out from other sportsbooks, PointsBet lets bettors try out PointsBetting, a new style of wagering; you win more money the more right you are with your sports bets. New customers get bet credits for standard sports betting online if their initial bets lose, with no exclusive affiliate code required.
WynnBET
WynnBET New York launched in New York at the end of NFL playoffs in February 2022, bringing the total of sites to seven. Wynn Interactive has a Wynn Rewards program together with Wynn Resorts properties and one of the best online sportsbook bonuses with New York sportsbook promo code XFINDWYNN. They are also the official sports betting partner of the Jets.
Bally Bet
One of the smaller betting sites, Bally Bet NY was the ninth and final operator to go live in the sportsbook market. They started taking bets in the Summer of 2022. Bally’s Corporation is taking on US sports betting and their first sportsbooks launched in 2021 in several states. Bally Bet Sportsbook is still a small operation compared to major sportsbooks and with no welcome bonus, it is not likely to top the New York sports betting handle any time soon.
Resorts World Bet
Another small New York sports betting site, Resorts WorldBet is not well known in online gambling yet. How they fare among the top NY betting sites remains to be seen, as Resorts World NY launched quietly and started to accept wagers in the NY sports betting scene in March 2022. In addition to the New York betting apps, the retail sportsbook is available for in-person betting at Resorts Catskills. Currently, they don’t have a new customer offer.
⭐ Sportsbook Bonuses

The best NY sports betting promos attract customers to the licensed online sportsbooks; always read the fine print on legal sportsbooks before you start betting. Eligibility restrictions apply.
New Yorkers have plenty of legal NY sports betting bonuses to choose from when they register on the nine NY sportsbooks for the first time. Remember to check the required sportsbook promo codes and the wagering requirements for welcome bonuses. In addition, several types of promotions for existing users are live as well. Some of the common welcome offers New York betting sites have:
- Second Chance Wagers: The most common out of all sportsbook bonus bets: if your initial wager loses, the sportsbook refunds you in site credit, worth the amount of your loss up to a certain point. Usually, you can cash out your winnings (but not the stake) after wagering the site credit once.
- Wager Match: A quite rare offer, but some sites offer new customers a free wager worth the amount of their first wager (following bet settlement), regardless whether it wins of loses.
- Initial Deposit Matches: This one is simple: the sportsbook gives you money in accordance to your first deposit. For instance, if your sportsbook is offering 50% up to $200, $100 deposit would get you $50 in bonus cash. In many cases, you get 100% deposit match bonuses, but sometimes less than that. You often have to wager through the bonus money more times than risk free wagers.
- Bonus Bets: The sportsbook gives you promotional wagers for free. These are often given as a part of various promotions if your other bets win or exceed a certain dollar amount. Note that you can’t keep the stake, only the winnings.
- Bet Insurance: If you opt in to insure your bet, you can get money back if there’s a last minute comeback in the sports event or one of your parlay legs loses.
- Refer-A-Friend: One of the most popular ongoing promotions; most sportsbooks in New York give existing customers bonus credit if their friend signs up and deposits on the sportsbook.
- Early Cashout: On some sites, you can opt in for an early cashout, which means you can settle your bet early in case you get the feeling the end result of the sporting event won’t be in your favor.
⭐ Apps
All of the brands available in the state have great New York sports betting apps for your mobile phone. Virtually all NY sportsbook apps can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store (iOS apps) and the Google Play Store, so New York bettors should have no problems getting them. Note that regulated mobile betting apps use geolocation technology to prevent out-of-state sports betting, so you should always connect to Wi-Fi when online wagering to ensure your phone appears to be physically located within New York state lines. After you turn on location services, you can bet anywhere in the state!
⭐ Differences Among the Sportsbooks
While all nine approved sportsbooks in the Empire State offer sports betting, there is variance in the operations. You can sign up for several legal New York sportsbooks, and you should look up each one’s offerings before making a deposit. Below are some of the things you should check out when choosing a sportsbook:
- New User Bonus
New York sportsbook promos for your first wager vary, so make sure to check the options before you make a deposit and legally bet on sports. In our opinion, Caesars Sportsbook NY has the best welcome bonus for new users. - App
Some sportsbook apps are a bit more convoluted with information or just don’t look very good. - Sports Betting Markets
DraftKings and BetMGM have the biggest variety in betting markets, but some of the other books support smaller sports too. If you’re interested in niche sports, check out each site’s markets. Major sports leagues are available on all online sports betting apps. - Types of Bets
Single game parlays have become all the rage recently, as well as live betting. All legal apps offer the same basic mobile wagers, but there’s variance when it comes to parlays and props. - Availability
If you like to travel a lot, you might want to sign up at a sportsbook that is live in multiple states, like FanDuel Sportsbook. That way you can bet on the Knicks while on the road! - Banking Options
There is also variance among the mobile sportsbooks in deposit and withdrawal methods. Some of the common ones are online wallets like PayPal, Play+, credit & debit cards, bank transfers and ACH.
⭐ Sports in NY
From the Knicks to the Jets, the best NY sports betting sites have all of the professional sporting teams to root and bet for. In addition, legendary venues like the Madison Square Garden host events across various sports leagues and college games. BetMGM and Caesars New York already announced their sports betting partnership with the MSG and the NY teams that call it home, and FanDuel New York has partnered with the Bills to provide great experiences to fans.
Team | Sports League | Venue |
---|---|---|
New York Mets | MLB | Citi Field |
New York Yankees | MLB | Yankee Stadium |
Brooklyn Nets | NBA | Barclays Center |
New York Knicks | NBA | MSG |
New York Liberty | WNBA | Barclays Center |
Buffalo Bills | NFL | Highmark Stadium |
New York Giants | NFL | MetLife Stadium |
New York Jets | NFL | Met Life Stadium |
Buffalo Sabres | NHL | KeyBank Center |
New York Islanders | NHL | UBS Arena |
New York Rangers | NHL | MSG |
New York City FC | MLS | Yankee Stadium |
New York Red Bulls | MLS | Red Bull Arena |
Gotham FC | NWSL | Red Bull Arena |

Yankees are one of the biggest professional sports teams in New York. All NY sportsbooks offer mobile betting on New York teams.
MLB
The rivalry between the Yankees and the Mets is what sports in New York are all about. It culminated in the World Series title series in 2000, but the rivalry is still going strong, with the Yankees having the edge with their 27 World Series titles. The Mets’ new owner Steve Cohen is hoping to build a competitive team for the next season, but both teams have great rosters and MLB games are a delight for New York bettors and baseball fans alike.
NFL
New York is the home to three NFL teams, Giants, Giants, and the Jets. The Giants lead group in Super Bowls, although neither Jets nor Giants fans have had much to root for during the NFL regular season in recent NFL history. However, the Jets traded for one of the most accomplished quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers, from the Green Bay Packers, which should spice up their season. Instead, New York sports fans look to the Bills and their QB Josh Allen in the AFC East to win the Super Bowl title soon in the most popular sport in America.
NHL
The Eastern Conference members New York Rangers and the New York Islanders are responsible for the most heated hockey rivalry in the Big Apple. Both Islanders and Rangers, who have won four Stanley Cups, are in good form every season. Who knows, Stanley Cup might end up in New York City once again. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres have been dragging through the mud as the least successful of the NHL teams.
NBA
NBA has a strong representation in the Big Apple, but the current roster of the Knicks NBA team doesn’t have much cause for celebration. Still, there’s always the special feeling when you place the home team on your bet slip and sit back to watch an NBA game. The Nets were among the favorites to win the NBA title at the NBA finals last season, but Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving among the rest of the players fell short and were eliminated in the first round. Maybe the NBA championship will be within reach this season.
New York also has a WNBA team in Liberty, but their stats mirror that of the men’s NBA teams.
MLS
Out of the two MLS teams, the New York City FC is a recent MLS Cup winner but the New York Red Bulls is an average team at best. However, Major League Soccer is gaining more and more popularity in New York State, so there are a lot of betting opportunities for both teams. They also have a NWSL Soccer team, Gotham FC.
UFC / MMA
UFC and MMA were not sanctioned by the New York State Athletic Commission for a long time. When UFC finally arrived, it arrived with a bang. At UFC 205, dubbed by Dana White as the biggest fight card in history, Conor McGregor struck gold to become the first reigning double division UFC champion. Since then, New York has played host to some of the biggest fight cards in the promotions history, including Diaz vs Masvidal and St-Pierre vs Bisping.
Boxing
Unlike the UFC, boxing has never had a bad rep in New York City. Several legends like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson have boxed under the lights of MSG. Nowadays, it’s perhaps best known for Andy Ruiz Jr’s sensational knockout of Anthony Joshua back in 2019.
Others
New York also plays host to the fourth and final Grand Slam in the Tennis ATP series, the US Open. For golf bettors, the US Open took place in New York in 2020, although we might have to wait a bit for the next edition. You can also bet on college sports like March Madness and college football bowl games, just not on in-state college teams or even on NCAA tournament events where a New York team participates; so the several NY college basketball teams are off limits. It is safe to say that legal betting options are plentiful on all nine sportsbooks, no matter which are your favorite sports.
⭐ Types of Bets

BetMGM Sportsbook offers a Single Game Parlay for various games.
If you are new to online sports betting, you might not be familiar with the bet types. Below, we walk new bettors through the most common types with some examples of betting odds for New York sports teams in the following categories. Note that college sports betting options are a bit more limited.
Moneyline
Moneyline bets are probably the most simple to understand; you bet on the winner of the game. Virtually all sports leagues have moneylines, and they always have a favorite and an underdog. Betting on the underdog gets you a bigger potential payout, but the favorite is more likely to win. In the example below, Bills are the favorites by a longshot.
Teams | BetMGM NY | BetRivers | DraftKings NY |
---|---|---|---|
Bills | -750 | -670 | -590 |
Jets | +550 | +510 | +425 |
Point Spreads
Point spread bets are a bit more complicated; you bet on the team and the point amount you expect them to win by. So if you bet on the Bills “to cover the spread”, you believe they’ll win by 12 points or more. On other hand, the Jets just need to stay within 11 points or win the game for that spread bet to win.
Teams | Spread | Odds |
---|---|---|
Bills | -11.5 | -110 |
Jets | +11.5 | -110 |
Totals
This particular sports wager means betting on the total number of points or goals in a game (combined score), but in the form of over or under a certain number. Often, it is a decimal number, for example 5.5 goals in the Islanders versus New Jersey Devils game. In this case, a 3-2 result would be an under bet, while 2-4 would be over.
NYI vs NJD | BetMGM | BetRivers | DraftKings |
---|---|---|---|
Over 5.5 | +100 | +104 | +105 |
Under 5.5 | -120 | -122 | -125 |
Parlay Bets
A parlay bet combines multiple bets into one. A common one is to choose several moneyline bets; for example, you can pick Rangers, Florida Panthers, and Boston Bruins to all win during the same round. Some of New York’s sportsbooks let you build same game parlays, which have the legs from one game.
Prop Bets
Prop bets are bets on individual players or teams that don’t directly affect the result of the game. Some books offer a more broad range of props than others, and some sports have more options than others. Player props are available for both team and individual sports.
- Player X to score the first touchdown
- Player Y to throw 300 yards
- First team to 20 points
- Time of 1st goal
- Leader after 1st half
- Both teams to score in the 1st half
Live In-Game Betting
All the best sportsbooks have live betting operations with plenty of options. This means you can get in a sports bet from your mobile device when the sporting events are in action for a great betting experience. You can’t place in-play wagers on college sports.
Futures Bet
Finally, futures bets are wagers on upcoming events in major leagues and sports markets. The classic futures are Super Bowl Winner, World Series Winner and MVP awards. Each team in a league has odds to win, but since there can only be one, the potential payouts for the unlikely candidates are very high.
⭐ Retail Betting

FanDuel Sportsbook has a retail sportsbook at Tioga Downs, one of the tribal casinos for land-based gambling.
Seven tribal casinos and four commercial casinos offer retail sports betting in NY at upstate locations, and the four commercial casinos have partnered with the New York online sportsbook brands that were awarded an online license. You can visit one of the almost dozen upstate New York casinos to place sports wagers at the retail sportsbooks.
- Tioga Downs Casino Resort (Nichols, NY)
- Turning Stone Resort Casino (Verona, NY)
- Yellow Brick Road Casino (Chittenango, NY)
- Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort (Hogansburg, NY)
- Rivers Casino (Schenectady, NY)
- del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)
- Point Place Casino (Bridgeport, NY)
- Resorts World Catskills (Monticello, NY)
- Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino (Buffalo, NY)
- Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino (Niagara Falls, NY)
- Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino (Salamanca, NY)
Horse Racing
Online horse betting is completely legal in New York, and the state hosts multiple horse tracks and off-track betting facilities. NY offers also their own horse betting platform, NYRA. This gives platforms like TwinSpires and TVG also access to the NY horse betting market.
⭐ Legalization of Online Wagering
After the US Supreme Court struck down the federal law PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) and ended the federal ban on betting in 2018, New York legislature decided to pursue legal sports betting. By 2019, land-based casinos could start accepting legal wagers through a physical sportsbook. The legislation did not include additions to New York Online Gambling in the form of an online sports betting bill. On January 6th 2021, Gov. Andrew Cuomo suddenly announced that he would be willing to agree to a mobile sports betting model where NY State Lottery would run the online and mobile betting sites.
In April 2021, Governor Cuomo legalized New York sports betting law with mobile and online betting licenses available for two or more operators. During the Summer, the state received six competing bids for the online sports betting licenses. In November, the New York State Gaming Commission chose two groups with a total of nine operators to launch prior to the Super Bowl LVI in 2022. Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetRivers launched their mobile sportsbook apps first in the market. Online casinos and online poker remain illegal, although some in the Empire State would like to see the online operators expand into online casino gaming; for now, you have to visit neighboring states.
Sports Wagering Rules
Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr, a major advocate of NY gaming legislation, Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, and some other New York lawmakers supported a more competitive market. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo pushed to maximize the NY online sports betting revenue to the state’s coffers. This led to New York sports betting rules and regulations that are not ideal for the operators, and potentially not for sports bettors either. Governed by the New York State Gaming Commission, all operators must conform to the following:
- New York’s mobile sports betting licensing fee is $25 million for 10 years.
- In addition, platform providers must pay $5 million annually to one of four upstate casinos to host their servers, in order to consider the wagers being made on-site at retail locations.
- New York mobile operators must pay 51% tax rate on gross revenue.
- Minimum age for legal online sports betting in New York is 21 years of age.
With the high costs of operating in New York’s sports betting market, NY bettors see worse betting lines than in neighboring New Jersey & other states. Being one of the largest legal sports betting states in the U.S. will offset some of the difficulties, as the annual revenue could be up to $1B according to New York Gaming Commission estimates. Governor Kathy Hochul reported over $70 million in revenue from sports betting taxes on the gross gaming revenue during the first month.
