History of the Establishment
Ameristar Black Hawk opened its doors in late 2001 under the name Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt. With a 57,000-square-feet gaming space, the casino was the largest in the state at the time. However, due to financial struggles, the casino changed hands within two years of opening, operating a while under the name Mountain High Casino until it was bought out of bankruptcy in 2004 by Ameristar Casinos. In 2006, the casino underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, and three years later, a hotel tower worth over $230 million was added, providing 500 rooms to guests wishing to stay overnight.
